IIM Calcutta was set up in 1961 as the country's first national institute for post-graduate studies and research in management in India. It was established with the cooperation of MIT Sloan School of Management, the Government of West Bengal, and the Ford Foundation. In the last sixty years, IIM Calcutta has grown to become one of Asia's best business schools with its academic strength, research orientation, and close industry interface. The institute provides several programs such as MBA, doctoral studies, and executive education and attracts the best talent from all over India.

How IIM Calcutta selects its batch — step by step

Registration Process
Register and appear for CAT 2025 (November 2025) for admission in 2026

Online Application Form Filling
Apply online via IIM Calcutta portal after CAT results (December 2025–January 2026)

Initial Shortlisting
Shortlisting (Stage I): Minimum sectional and overall CAT percentile cut-offs must be met by the students

Final Shortlisting
Shortlisting (Stage II): Composite score ranking based on CAT score, Class X & XII marks, gender diversity

Writing Ability Test And PI for Shortlisted Students
Appear for Writing Ability Test (WAT) and Personal Interview (PI) (February–March 2026)

Personal Interview
Personal interview is conducted to compute the Final composite score

Final Selection on the basis of Composite Score
Final composite score includes CAT Score (30%) + PI (48%) + WAT (8%) + Academic Diversity (6%) + Work Experience (8%). Based on composite score, category-wise merit list prepared and offer letters are issued.
